PRINCESS MARGARET and LORD SNOWDON
During May 1967 the School was granted a Royal visit by Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon.
We received little warning apart from Margaret Clarke who was given the important job of presenting the Princess with a bouquet of flowers.
On the day the entire school was stood around the roundabout
at the main entrance. The school Cubs, Scout and Guide groups were paraded
and inspected by the Royal party.
The "huge" cars arrived and the visit started.
At this stage the Princess and Snowdon planted trees in the middle of the roundabout at the school entrance. Facing the school main doors the tree planted by Princesss Margaret was on the left of the path while that of Lord Snowdon was on the right. These trees are no longer there and are not even marked by small plaques.
The princess and her entourage were given a guided tour of the school before being taken again outside where the flowers were presented.
